Cezanne and Provence, Morandi and Grizzana. These artists’ ability to convey on canvas their understanding of nature and landscape and their innate significance has always fascinated me. The meaning of their own art (and their lives) was a solitary investigation: the attempt to capture the essence of the vibrations which their gaze or fuller contemplation perceived.
Form as a synthesis of sensation and knowledge is the dominant theme that inspired me to create this work. I chose the square, the perfect shape, as the confines of the perceptual experience, and the prolonged exposure over time as the way to dissolve reality. A photographic representation that goes beyond the superficiality of a gaze to dig deep beneath the surface, in the search for an understanding of form and light.
